My PERSONAL thoughts on the argument: (Personal is the key word here. XD I'm not trying to start an argument.) The only thing I disagree with is I do not believe Eragon is a Gary-sue personally. Eragon is deeply flawed as a hero, which is the exact opposite of a Gary-sue. A gary-sue, if we're talking about the same thing, is a perfect character. Eragon increasingly shows a lack of direction at sometimes without the determination to resolve it. He hasn't proved himself without the help of someone. For instance, He may have killed the shade Durza, but it was only with the distraction of Ayra and Saphira. Murtagh was constantly rescuing him and so was Brom. Yet Eragon tried, and still does try his hardest with the best of intentions, which is what makes him a hero. A gary-sue? I don't personally think so. I've seen much, much, much worse Gary-sues.
As an writer, I have a few things to add in his defense for the similarities it does have with Lord of the Rings and other books. (I've read both series, and see only a few similarities.) To be successful in the world of the pen, you must /enjoy/ writing, which means you usually write what you enjoy reading. A large amount of ideas and things that inspire you from your actual life and the things you read and enjoy and find interesting somehow always manage to wriggle their way into the story.
In the end, you take exactly what you want from a book. It ends up if your a 'glass half full' or 'glass half empty' sorta person. XD It was still a great comic, and I'll enjoy reading the rest. For anyone who read this insanely long comment, you get cookies!!!!
Also, we have read and re-read Eragon and Eldest over a thousand times so we get our facts right. DO NOT insult us, while we have not insulted you.
The Meegus was created for mere fun, and to generate intelectual discussion and argument between fans and anti's. What Paolini did of "copying" from every fantasy (or sci-fi) book (or movie) was overly wrong, and if it wasn't for his' parents having influence in the literature world, he would be treated like anyone else who did such as him.
On the copying matter we've refered, if it were just one or two names, it wouldn't be much of a problem, everyone ends up doing it sometime, but in the Inheritance, it is constant.
"Eragon" was inspired by the word "dragon" not "Aragorn"
There aren't many name copies besides(apparently) Carvahal, and the entire "Ancient Language" was an invention entirely of Paolini's own creativeness.
anyway it was funny in my opinion
